The aging of plastics are generally caused by three reasons:
- Temperature changes (hard and brittle in winter, and flexible in summer);
- Air oxidation;
- Ultraviolet radiation.
Optical brighteners absorb light in the UV and re-emit light in the blue region. Thus by absorbing the UV radiation they can delay the aging of plastics.
